About Baton Rouge, LA
The first French settlement in the Baton Rouge area was established in 1718. The city was incorporated in 1819 and became the state capital in 1849. Baton Rouge is on the Mississippi River in the southern part of Louisiana. Downtown Baton Rouge, LA is on the waterfront.
